Army captain sends message to Buhari over treatment of soldiers

- A soldier has called on the president to look into the cases of wounded soldiers
- He said most of his colleagues have expressed regret fighting for Nigeria
- They called on well-meaning Nigerians to also support them

A Nigerian army captain has cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the aid of soldiers who were wounded while fighting against Boko Haram terrorists.
He said this has affected the spirit of most of the soldiers are they express regret for Nigeria.

Read his message below:

I am crying out to the president, the Senate & COAS to see reasons for hastily treatment of troops who put their lives to defend this great country.

It would surprise every Nigerians and the president that soldiers who were wounded in the fight against the ongoing insurgency are still lying helpless in the variousmilitary hospitals.

As I speak to you, I was wounded in the fight 2014 and up till now, I am still laying in the hospital without my surgery, reason been that, the Nigerian army claim there is no money for our treatment for now.

Each time I set my eyes on other soldiers crying under pains, using regretting words for their effort not considered, I wept. How can the Nigerian army authority be this wicked?

Most of us with surgical issues came in here for over years, as usual in the military, a medical board was done with an outcome of a total estimate of our surgery some as low as two hundred thousand and above but we would be left without the surgery for years and we ask the medical director, we were shocked to be told that, the army headquarters have not approved it and something have not released money for our treatment.

I know on seeing this, the Nigerian Army would deny it but I am asking the president, members of senate and well meaning Nigerians to visit the following military hospitals to see this for themselves. 7Div medical hospital Maiduguri, Teaching hospital Maiduguri, 68NARH Yaba, Lagos state, 44NARHK Kaduna state and 2Div medical hospital.

This has brought so much fear to most of our colleagues in the theatre of war, because each time we tell them situation we are going through, they responded with panic and advise to trade with caution.

I am using the medium to invite people concern to please treat us as heroes and not criminals. God bless the president, the Senate, COAS, and Nigerians.

BREAKING: Outbreak of monkeypox hits Bayelsa, 10 persons quarantined

- Bayelsa state has been affected by an outbreak of Monkeypox

- The state commissioner of health confirmed the development

- He said 10 persons and a medical doctor have been quarantined

Residents of Bayelsa have been gripped by fear after theoutbreak of a rare deadly viral disease known as monkeypox in the state.

The Punch reports that the state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, confirmed the development.

According to World Health organisation, monkeypox occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa that “can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder.

”It was reported that a medical doctor and 10 others were down with the disease and were being quarantinedin an isolation centre at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control was reportedly tracking 49 people who have had contact with the quarantined persons.

The health commissioner said: “Recently in Bayelsa State, we noticed a suspected outbreak of monkeypox. It has not been confirmed. We have sent samples to the World Health Organisation’s reference laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.

”When that comes out, we will be sure that it is confirmed. But from all indications, it points towards it.

”As the name implies, the virus was first seen in monkey, but can also be found in all bush animals such as rats, squirrels and antelopes.

”The source is usually all animals. It was first seen in monkeys and that is why it is called monkeypox. But every bush animals such as rats, squirrels, and antelopes are involved.

“So, the secretions from particularly dead animals are highly contagious.”

He listed the symptoms of the disease as severe headache, fever, back pains, etc. and noted that it came with bigger rashes than the smallpox.

He said:“We have seen cases from as far as Biseni. We invited the NCDC together with our own epidemiologicalteam from the Bayelsa Ministry of Health.

“We have been able to trace most of the people who have come in contact with the patients.

“So far, we have 10 patients and we have created an isolation centre at the NDUTH and most of them are on admission and we are following up the 49 cases that weare suspecting might come down with the illness.

“As a state, we are taking care of all the expenses of all the isolated cases.

“The disease has an incubation period and it is also self-limiting in the sense that within two to four weeks, you get healed and it confers you with immunity for life.

“We have mobilised virtually every arsenal at our disposal in terms of sensitising the general public and making them aware by radio programmes, jingles and fliers. So, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has mobilised fully to Bayelsa State. We are on top of the situation.

“The only thing I will tell the general public is to observe hand hygiene and ensure they don’t come in contact with dead animals and their secretions. The disease is air-borne too. So when you come down with it, it is very infectious.

“People should wash their hands whenever they go in orcome out of their houses. If they come in touch with animals, they should ensure that they wash their hands.

“They should be very vigilant. People should report any similar cases to the relevant authorities.“

A lot of people have come down with the symptoms, but they are hiding in their houses. If they hide, there is the propensity for the infection to spread.

“It is better to quarantine them and treat them so that we can interrupt the spread of the disease.

“People should be calm and they shouldn’t get frightened. The state has distributed personal protectiveequipment to workers and they are using them.”
